I am a newbie on this subject and sometimes the literature can get a bit overwhelming ;) Keep up the good work!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35658622.post-5320108719474667312011-11-11T12:03:09.869+13:002011-11-11T12:03:09.869+13:00Hi Anonymous, other than Haber and Menaldo's w...Hi Anonymous, other than Haber and Menaldo's work (which is very technical, and a bit controversial), I'd recommend Terry Lynn Karl's "The Paradox of Plenty" which focuses mostly on Venezuela. It's a good book, though it's probably not as current as one would wish - appeared in 1997, I think. There are some studies (I think Besley and somebody else, but I can't recall exactly) analyzing the impact of oil and other natural resources on democracy in US states and other non-authoritarian contexts, but I can't remember exact titles. Check also some of the sources I list here: http://www.citeulike.org/user/xmarquez/tag/oil. Their bibliographies might give you further clues.

Hope this helps!Xavier Marquezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10099356104979121153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35658622.post-19161904555923931122011-11-11T10:03:50.723+13:002011-11-11T10:03:50.723+13:00Dear Xavier. I am very much interested in political economy of development and the impacts of resource wealth on democracy as well. However, my focus is more democratic consolidation and countries that already are nascent democracies as opposed to the authoritarian regimes in the Middle East and Africa. Can you suggest any readings on this subject?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
